Garage Doors in Sunnyside, OntarioThe whole door, not just the loud part.
When a technician arrives at a house in Sunnyside, the first job is to walk the whole door, from the bottom seal to the header bracket, because the part that made the noise usually has a worn neighbour. Fixing both on one visit means the door stays fixed instead of failing again next month.

Sunnyside
Ask us to look at your door in Sunnyside.
Our technicians treat a door in Sunnyside as a system: springs, cables, drums, rollers, tracks, opener and sensors all affecting each other. A repair that ignores the neighbouring parts fails early, so we check the lot, fix what is worn, and tell you honestly what is fine and can wait.

Springs
Springs & Hardware
Cold snaps take a toll on springs already near the end of their life. A coil that was hanging on through the summer often lets go on the first hard frost.

Openers
Openers & Access
Belt drives are quiet, chain drives are sturdy, and wall-mounted units leave the ceiling clear. Choosing among them depends on the door, the room above the garage and how you use the space.

2021 census · what it means at the door
58%Older homes
About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Older garages tend to have lower headroom and narrower single openings, so replacement doors and openers are chosen to fit the space rather than the other way round. Measuring the header, side room and ceiling depth is the first step on every one of these visits.
23%
Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).
In attached housing, a resident's remote or fob may open both their own door and a shared gate, and lost devices are a real security concern. We clear old codes from the operator, program replacements, and explain to management how to keep the access list current.
Which fix fits?
The new door went in last year and looks perfect, but the old wooden stop and its tired seal were left in place. The usual fix
UsuallyGarage Door Perimeter Weatherstrip
WhyA perimeter seal is only as good as the door it meets, so a technician looks at the door before the seal.
A roller near the top corner is riding on the lip of the track rather than inside it, and the section above leans back a little more each week. The usual fix
UsuallyGarage Door Roller Replacement
WhyNot every roller suits every door.
The door went up as usual this morning, then stopped a third of the way with one corner higher than the other. The usual fix
UsuallyGarage Door Cable Replacement
WhyWhich counterbalance your door has shapes the job.
It is a January morning and the door lifts about a hand's width, groans, and settles back down. The usual fix
UsuallyGarage Door Opener Diagnosis and Repair
WhyEvery diagnosis ends with the same two tests, because an opener that moves the door is only half fixed.
Asked and answered
Will a new seal make the room above my garage warmer?
It can help. Drafts around the garage door cool the garage, and the garage cools the floor above it and the wall it shares with the house. Closing the perimeter cuts those drafts, though how much warmer the garage runs depends on the door's own seal, the ceiling insulation and how the space is heated, not the perimeter alone. A technician can talk through those as separate steps if the room stays cold.
What is checked after the rollers go in?
The door is run through several cycles with the technician watching each wheel stay seated, then balanced by hand with the opener released to confirm it holds at halfway. The top section is checked for a tight seal at the header, the hinge and bracket fasteners are snugged, and the opener's force and reversal are tested with a 1-1/2 inch block in the door's path. The industry checklist for a residential door covers exactly these points, and they are all part of finishing the job.
What stops the door from falling if a cable lets go?
It depends, and not reliably. The other cable and its spring may hold that corner so the door tips and wedges in the track rather than falling square, and the rollers binding can add some resistance, but neither is dependable: the door can still drop unexpectedly on the failed side. Some doors also carry a broken-cable device on the bottom bracket that grips the track if a cable fails. Because the door may not be held at all, the technician clamps and supports it before doing anything else.
Will the repair happen during the same visit?
When the cause is a common part carried on the truck, yes: capacitors, gear kits, sensor pairs, trolleys, wall controls, remotes and wiring are typical. When the part is specific to an older model and has to be ordered, or when the diagnosis finds a spring or cable problem that needs its own appointment, the door is left safe and the next step is agreed with you before the technician leaves.
Is a chain drive supposed to be this noisy?
A chain drive has a steady mechanical sound that a belt drive lacks, and that much is normal. What is not normal is change: a slap along the rail from a loose chain, a clack at one spot from a worn sprocket tooth, grinding from the head as a gear wears, or a rattle from hangers or a header bracket that have loosened. Each of those has a fix, and a repaired chain drive should sound the way it did when it was new.
