The make and model printed on the motor head, roughly how old the operator is, what the belt is doing and what it sounds like, when it started, whether the red cord has been pulled and whether anyone has adjusted anything. When you call

An evening, weekend or holiday visit costs the same amount as a weekday one for a belt-drive repair. The technician looks at the belt, trolley and rail once on site, and the exact figure follows from what is actually found, not from the day of the week.

Adjustment or replacement

A tension adjustment with the safety tests is the smallest visit. A new belt, with a fresh clip, phasing and relearned limits, is a larger one, and the inspection decides which you need.

Height of the ceiling

Where the operator hangs under a tall or vaulted ceiling, the sprocket and idler are reached from taller ladders and the work at the head takes longer.
